The WolfPack men’s basketball team has opened their Canada West season with a statement, starting the year 3–0 after a dominant weekend sweep over the UBC Thunderbirds, one of the conference’s most respected programs.

In Vancouver, the WolfPack controlled both games from start to finish, taking Friday’s matchup 85–74 before following it up with a 73–68 victory on Saturday to complete the sweep. The wins mark TRU’s best start in recent seasons and place them near the top of the Canada West standings early on. Jaden Stephens had led the way for TRU, averaging 20.1 points per game so far.

UBC entered the weekend as one of the top-ranked programs in the country and a consistent contender in Canada West, but TRU’s defensive pressure and ability to score in transition proved to be the difference. Holding the Thunderbirds to 68 points in the second game was a clear sign of the WolfPack’s growth on the defensive end compared to last season.

Through three games, TRU has averaged over 75 points per contest while holding opponents to under 70. Their combination of size, discipline, and ball movement has helped them set the tone early in the season.

The WolfPack now look to carry their momentum forward as conference play continues and they aim to establish themselves among the top contenders in Canada West this season.
