The WolfPack women’s soccer program finished their 2025 campaign with plenty to be proud of. While the team narrowly missed out on a playoff berth, three players were recognized among the best in the conference, marking one of the most successful individual seasons in program history.
Forward Esi Lufo, midfielder Sara Kuusimaki, and goalkeeper Floor Ursem all earned Canada West honours following a year that showcased the WolfPack’s progress and promise.
Lufo was named to the Pacific Division All Star Team. The third-year striker produced one of the most impressive offensive runs in program history, scoring nine goals and setting new WolfPack records for both single-season and career Canada West goals and points. Her consistency and drive made her one of the most dangerous forwards in the entire country, and her ability to find the net in big moments often set the tone for the team’s success.
Lufo’s record-breaking year also earned her recognition beyond the conference. She was named as our Gameday Kamloops Athlete of the Month for August, after an explosive start to the season that included multiple multi-goal performances and a dominant presence up front. Her scoring touch helped fuel TRU’s best start in recent memory and established her as the face of the program’s resurgence.
Rookie Sara Kuusimaki was another major bright spot, earning a spot on the Canada West All-Rookie Team. The first-year midfielder made an instant impact, scoring her first goal just minutes into her debut and showing a level of maturity and composure rare for a rookie. As the season went on, Kuusimaki proved her versatility by shifting into a defensive role, helping solidify TRU’s back line while maintaining her presence in transition play. Her effort and consistency earned her a Gameday Kamloops Athlete of the Month nomination in September, highlighting her as one of the conference’s top young prospects.
In goal, Floor Ursem gave the WolfPack stability and confidence from the first whistle. Also named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team, Ursem tied a program record with four shutouts while collecting 46 saves and posting a 1.46 goals-against average. Her calmness under pressure and ability to command the box made a significant difference in close games as TRU leaned on her steady performances down the stretch.
The WolfPack finished the season with five wins, the second-highest total in program history. While the playoff spot narrowly slipped away, the progress was undeniable.
