The Kamloops Storm will combine one of their most popular annual events with meaningful games in the KIJHL standings on Saturday night at McArthur Island.

The Storm host the Merritt Centennials at 7:00 pm while also putting on their fourth annual Wiener Dog Race, an event that has grown year after year into a fan favourite in Kamloops.

Local wiener dogs will take to the McArthur Island ice during intermissions, continuing a tradition that has become one of the Storm’s most anticipated theme nights. With the race’s popularity continuing to rise, Saturday’s game is expected to be a sellout crowd.

There is plenty on the line beyond the entertainment. The Storm enter the weekend sitting first overall in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League standings and remain firmly in the hunt for the KIJHL regular season championship.

The Storm can also clinch the Doug Birks Division Championship this weekend with a win over Merritt combined with a Williams Lake Mustangs loss. Williams Lake has three games on the schedule this weekend, while Kamloops plays just the one, adding another layer of scoreboard watching to the night.

With playoff positioning tightening across the league, Saturday's matchup carries postseason implications as the Storm look to keep pace at the top while delivering another packed house event at McArthur Island. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm.
