The Kamloops Storm are heading into Friday night with more than just two points on the line.
Kamloops hosts the Revelstoke Grizzlies in a matchup that could go a long way in deciding the Regular Season Championship, with the Storm currently sitting first overall in the league standings.
The Storm lead the table with 56 points and eight games remaining. Revelstoke sits just one point back at 55 points but with two additional games in hand, making Friday’s matchup a true swing game in the race for first place.
While Kamloops has already clinched a playoff spot, finishing first overall carries major importance. The top seed earns home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, a significant edge as the league moves toward postseason hockey.
Recent schedules show just how tight the race has become. Over their last eight games, the Storm have faced six opponents above .500 and still hold the highest opponents average points percentage among the top four teams. Revelstoke has also played a challenging stretch, facing five opponents over .500 in their last ten games.
The margin for error is slim. Kimberley and Beaver Valley remain within striking distance as well, sitting at 53 and 52 points respectively, keeping pressure on the top of the standings with just weeks left in the regular season.
Friday’s meeting between Kamloops and Revelstoke is not a must win in the standings, a Storm win would create separation and strengthen their grip on first place. A loss would tighten the race even further heading into the final stretch.
With playoff positioning, home ice, and a regulaer season title at stake, this one carries the feel of postseason hockey well before the playoffs arrive.
