Kamloops product Sawyer Mynio continues to make strides at the professional level, recently being named Rookie of the Year for the Abbotsford Canucks.

Mynio, who is a product of Kamloops BC, has steadily worked his way up the ranks, earning a reputation as a reliable and composed presence on the blue line. His progression from local standout to professional contributor has been marked by consistency and a strong two-way game.

The former Calgary Hitmen defenceman built his foundation in the WHL, where he logged significant minutes and played a key role in all situations. His time in Seattle and Calgary helped shape his defensive awareness and puck-moving ability, traits that have translated well to the next level.

In his first season with Abbotsford, Mynio made an immediate impression, earning the trust of the coaching staff while adapting to the pace and physicality of the American Hockey League. His ability to contribute at both ends of the ice, combined with his poise under pressure, quickly set him apart among first-year players.

That impact has now been recognized with the team’s Rookie of the Year honour, a milestone that highlights Mynio’s strong start in the professional ranks and signals continued promise as he looks to build on an already impressive debut season.
