Kamloops goaltender Kendra Woodland has taken the next major step in her career, signing a contract with the Ottawa Charge of the PWHL after earning her spot through a demanding tryout. Woodland has been one of the most consistent and driven players to come out of Kamloops in recent years, and her promotion to the professional level adds another milestone to an already strong resume.
When asked about making Ottawa’s roster and what it took over the past month, Woodland was clear about the commitment behind the achievement. “It feels unbelievable to be on Ottawa’s roster this season. It’s taken a lot to get here, discipline, accountability, hard work. But now that I’ve reached this rung in the ladder, it’s an amazing feeling that all of it has paid off.”
She also spoke about what it means to finally reach the pro level. “The rise of women’s professional sports is among us and to be a part of it is such a dream come true. Eight year old Kendra would be absolutely thrilled.”
Woodland now joins an Ottawa team coming off its strongest season, finishing third in the regular season standings and advancing to the final of the Walter Cup. The Charge return a competitive core and remain positioned as one of the league’s contenders heading into opening weekend.
Ottawa begins its season Saturday against New York, where Woodland enters her first year in the PWHL.
