Kamloops United FC 2 has secured second place in the Pacific Coast Soccer League standings after an undefeated final weekend, earning qualification for the 2025 PCSL Challenge Cup.

The team opened the weekend with a 3-3 draw against Westcastle International Academy in one of the most memorable matches of their season. After falling behind 3-0, Kamloops responded with three goals in the final 20 minutes to salvage a draw and keep their cup qualification hopes alive.

They followed it up with a win the next day against the Mid-Isle Mariners, sealing a top-two finish and booking their place in the final four.

Head Coach Ciaran McMahon, who has led the team this season alongside Assistant Coach Pasqualino Cuzzetto, praised the group’s determination and belief:

“The boys did a remarkable job coming from 3 goals down to draw 3-3 and qualify for the Challenge Cup. This is the third week in a row they have overcome adversity and battled for each other to find ways to stay in the game. Overcoming a 3 goal deficit in the final 20 minutes of a game is no easy feat and only serves to build our confidence as we head into the most challenging game of the season – our semi-final against Khalsa (defending Challenge Cup winners).”

The 2025 PCSL Challenge Cup will be held July 26 and 27 in Victoria, with the top four teams in the league competing for the title. Kamloops United FC 2 joins Victoria United FC, Khalsa Sporting Club, and A.F.A. (Ares Football Academy) in the semi-final round.

Kamloops’ attack has been led by JoNathan Smith, who finished the regular season as the team’s top scorer with eight goals.

With a strong finish to their campaign and a comeback that will be remembered, Kamloops United FC 2 now turns its attention to the postseason and a shot at the PCSL championship.
