Kamloops product Joe Hicketts has been selected to represent Canada at the 2025 Spengler Cup, which begins on Boxing Day in Davos Switzerland.

Hicketts is currently captaining the Ontario Reign, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings. In 27 games this season, the defenceman has recorded 12 points while playing his third year with the Kings AHL organization.

The Spengler Cup is one of the longest running international hockey tournaments and annually features professional players from leagues across North America and Europe. Canada traditionally assembles its roster from active professional players, including those competing in the NHL, AHL, and Europe.

Despite spending the season in California, Kamloops remains a regular offseason base for Hicketts. He frequently returns home in the summer, where he coached with Matt Kolle Hockey and completes his offseason training locally.

Hicketts will join Team Canada as tournament play opens on December 26, with games scheduled throughout the holiday period in Switzerland.
