Former Kamloops Blazers captain reaches 100 career NHL points in Carolina’s 7-2 victory over Vancouver.

Logan Stankoven scored the first hat trick of his career to help lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a dominant 7-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

The Kamloops product scored three consecutive goals at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, recording a short-handed goal, a power-play marker and an even-strength goal to complete the hat trick.

Stankoven’s milestone performance also saw him reach 100 career NHL points, adding another accomplishment to the 23-year-old forward’s growing resume.

After Carolina built a 4-1 lead early in the second period, Stankoven extended the advantage with a short-handed goal at 13:13, driving toward the net and finishing with a shot into the top of the net.

He struck again late in the second period, converting a no-look backhand pass from teammate Taylor Hall on the power play to put the Hurricanes ahead 6-1. Stankoven completed the hat trick at 11:36 of the third period, firing a wrist shot from between the faceoff circles to make it 7-1.

The three-goal performance was particularly impressive given the variety of situations in which Stankoven found the back of the net. He became just the fourth player in Hurricanes franchise history to score an even-strength, power-play and short-handed goal in the same game.

For the former Kamloops Blazers standout, the milestone represents another major moment in a career that has taken him from the WHL to the NHL.
