The Kamloops Blazers head into a pivotal weekend with back to back games against the Prince George Cougars before returning home to host the Victoria Royals on Monday.
It begins tonight at the CN Centre in Prince George, as the Blazers open a home and home set against the Cougars. Both teams will then travel south for a rematch tomorrow night at the Sandman Centre.
Prince George enters the weekend with 62 points through 51 games and sit 3rd in the Western Conference. Kamloops sits just two points back at 60 through 52 games in 5th. Sitting in between them are the Kelowna Rockets, the Memorial Cup hosts, with 61 points in 51 games.
With the standings this tight, every point matters. A strong showing this weekend would not only push the Blazers up the table, it would go a long way in helping cement a playoff position in a crowded race. There is still plenty of hockey left to be played, but head to head matchups like these carry extra weight at this stage of the season.
Kamloops is coming off a long road swing and now faces three games in four nights, including Monday’s matchup against Victoria. It is a demanding stretch that could have a real impact on how the standings look heading into the final run of the regular season.
