Alesandro Comita is pushing through a demanding first half of the season in Slovenia as he continues his development with ND Gorica. The Canadian midfielder has featured in 12 of the club’s 17 matches so far, including appearances in the Slovenia Cup. He has started 10 of those 12 games and logged about 800 total minutes, adding one goal and one assist.
It has been a very different year compared to last season. Gorica spent last year fighting for promotion to the first division, but changes within the club have created a new challenge. The focus has shifted from pushing upward to fighting to stay in the league. Comita has experienced both ends of the table in back-to-back seasons and says that contrast has pushed his development.
Through the difficult stretch he has been encouraged by the mentality inside the room. “There have definitely been great learnings being on both sides of the promotion and relegation battles,” Comita said. “Though there have been challenges I am happy with the continued resilience the team and I have shown because we have lots of quality and are just looking for a change of fortune.”
With one match left before the mid season break, Comita believes a reset can help shift their momentum and set up a stronger second half. His consistent minutes, increased responsibility, and steady growth overseas continue to showcase another strong chapter in his career as he represents Kamloops on the European stage.
