The TRU WolfPack men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the Tournament Capital Centre this week for their final home games of the 2025–26 regular season, hosting the UFV Cascades and UBC Thunderbirds in a pair of important Canada West matchups.
Men's Basketball
The men open the weekend Thursday night before closing the home schedule on Saturday. The WolfPack enter the final stretch of the season positioned near the top of the Pacific Division and remain in contention to host a Canada West quarterfinal.
TRU has compiled one of its strongest conference seasons to date and carries momentum into the weekend after sweeping UBC Okanagan to open the second semester. Defensively, the WolfPack have been among the most effective teams in the conference, while their pressure and transition play continue to generate opportunities on both ends of the floor.
Prior to Saturday’s game, the program will recognize graduating student athletes Thomas Olsen and Gavin Reis. Both joined the WolfPack in 2021 and have been consistent contributors throughout their careers, combining extensive experience that will be valuable during the final stretch.
UFV and UBC present familiar challenges. The Cascades currently sit just behind the WolfPack in the division standings, while the Thunderbirds remain among the conference’s top scoring teams. Results this weekend will play a role in determining playoff positioning heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
Women's Basketball
The women also close out their home schedule against UFV and UBC, with playoff qualification still within reach.
TRU enters the weekend tied with multiple teams in the Pacific Division as the race for postseason spots tightens. A win on Thursday would be a significant step toward returning to the Canada West playoffs for the first time since 2020.
The WolfPack are coming off a split with UBC Okanagan, responding to a Friday loss with a defensive focused win on Saturday. Recent performances have highlighted improved consistency on the defensive end and on the glass as the season has progressed.
UFV arrives after a pair of road wins, while UBC comes off a sweep of the division leading Trinity Western Spartans. The teams previously met earlier this season, setting the stage for competitive rematches in Kamloops. Earlier this season against the Cascades, Olena Vasylenko delivered one of the most effective playmaking performances in WolfPack women’s basketball history. Her nine assists in the win tied for the sixth most in a single game in program history, highlighting her ability to control tempo, create quality looks for teammates, and manage the game at a high level in a key conference matchup.
