Dylan Sydor is taking his game North of the Border. The former Kamloops Blazer and Lethbridge Hurricane has committed to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, joining the Nanooks men’s hockey program for the upcoming season.

Sydor spent last year with the University of Calgary, where he put up 13 points in 22 games. That season, he said, gave him valuable experience against older and stronger player. “Having played one season at the University of Calgary was great for me, playing against older and stronger players,” Sydor explained. “I learned a lot and had to also work on a lot to get to that level. This is another challenge and I’m excited to embrace it and take my game to another level.”

Thanks to the NCAA’s recent rule change allowing former WHL players to compete for the first time, Sydor has the opportunity to continue his career at the NCAA level.

The Kamloops product said the culture at Alaska made his decision easy. “Talking to the coaches throughout the summer and connecting with guys that have played here made it a pretty easy decision,” Sydor said. “The culture is also a very big part of why I wanted to be here. The coaching staff and players have all been amazing and very welcoming.”

Sydor will now look to make his mark with the Nanooks as he continues his hockey career at the NCAA Division I level.
