Team BC box lacrosse capped off a perfect run in St. John’s, Newfoundland, going undefeated on their way to capturing gold at the Canada Summer Games. In the final, BC battled past Alberta with a gritty 4–2 win to secure top spot on the podium.

For Kamloops, there was a special connection to the championship. Alivia Smigielski was the only local player on Team BC’s roster, making her achievement even more historic. With no female box lacrosse teams currently offered in Kamloops, Smigielski has been breaking barriers while also helping to build the game for females in Kamloops.

Alongside coaching responsibilities with Kamloops Minor Lacrosse, she is one of two coaches leading efforts to bring girls together for both box and field lacrosse programs. On top of that, she regularly travels to Vancouver to compete with Team BC field lacrosse, and has also practiced and suited up in games with the Kamloops Junior Venom.

Her gold medal is a reflection of both her dedication to the sport and her drive to create opportunities for young female lacrosse players in the community.
