Ethan Katzberg is a Commonwealth Games champion. The BC athlete claimed gold in the men's hammer throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Monday, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the process with an opening throw of 80.97 metres at Scotstoun Stadium.

The throw was enough to secure gold on his very first attempt of the competition, with the record mark standing unchallenged through the remainder of the event. For Katzberg, who also owns Olympic gold from Paris 2024 and two world championship titles, the Commonwealth gold completes a remarkable collection of the sport's biggest prizes.

Canada had further reason to celebrate with a second BC athlete on the podium, as Rowan Hamilton of Chilliwack claimed bronze in the same event.
