TRU WolfPack Hockey Returns Tonight as Program Begins New Era in the BCIHL

WolfPack hockey is back. After more than a decade away, TRU returns to the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League tonight as the newly rebranded TRU WolfPack open their 2026-27 season, marking the program's first action since folding in 2014.

The return comes through an affiliation with the Logan Lake Miners, who have retired their name and joined the WolfPack as a self-funded competitive club program. The team will continue to play their home games at the Logan Lake Recreation Centre, just a short drive from TRU's main campus in Kamloops. Head coach and general manager Grant Friesen, who took over the Miners in 2023, will lead both the men's and women's programs.

For the first time in program history TRU will also ice a women's side, as the BCIHL launches its inaugural women's division this season with all five league members fielding female squads.

The original WolfPack competed in the BCIHL from 2009 to 2014, reaching the league finals twice and finishing atop the regular season standings in 2010-11. Tonight, a new chapter begins when the WolfPack drop the puck against the Okanagan Lakers at 7:00 PM.
