A new era of junior hockey is on the way in British Columbia and the Kamloops Storm will be a part of it.
BC Hockey has officially approved the British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) as the province’s sanctioned Junior A league.
The new league will feature 22 teams across three divisions, including 14 teams previously in the KIJHL and 8 teams previously in the PJHL. The Storm will play in the Interior Division alongside the following teams: Merritt Centennials, Osoyoos Coyotes, Princeton Posse, Quesnel River Rush, Revelstoke Grizzlies, Summerland Jets and the Williams Lake Mustangs.
Along with the Interior Division, the league will also feature a Kootenay Division and a Mainland Division. The teams joining from the PJHL that will play in the Mainland division include: Burnaby Steelers, Chilliwack Jets, Coastal Tsunami, Delta Ice Hawks, Langley Trappers, Port Coquitlam Trailblazers, Richmond Sockeyes and the Ridge Meadows Flames.
The Kootenay Division will include: Beaver Valley Nitehawks, Columbia Valley Rockies, Fernie Ghostriders, Grand Forks Border Bruins, Kimberley Dynamiters and the Nelson Leafs.
For a Kamloops organization that has built a reputation for consistency and player development, the move represents both validation and opportunity. Plus a chance to compete at a higher level while keeping local talent on a stronger development path at home.
It’s a significant shift for hockey in the province and the Storm and more than deserving of being a part of it.
