Playoff volleyball arrives in Kamloops tonight.

For the first time in program history, the WolfPack women’s volleyball team will host a Canada West playoff series at the Tournament Capital Centre as they open a best of three quarterfinal against the Manitoba Bisons.

TRU earned that right with a 14-6 regular season, the best winning percentage the program has ever recorded. Manitoba also finished 14-6. This is a fourth versus fifth matchup with almost nothing separating the two sides.

The Records

TRU WolfPack 14-6: Fourth in Canada West

The WolfPack built their season on balance and consistency. They protected home court, executed late in tight sets, and leaned on depth rather than one single scoring source.

Manitoba Bisons 14-6: Fifth in Canada West

Manitoba stayed within striking distance of the top four all season. They are disciplined, physical at the net, and comfortable playing high tempo volleyball.

Earlier this Season

These teams already tested each other.

When they met earlier in the regular season, TRU earned back to back straight set wins 3 to 0 over Manitoba in November. The WolfPack controlled tempo, limited extended Bison runs, and executed cleanly in transition.

That result proves TRU can dictate the matchup when their system is sharp. But playoff volleyball is different. Adjustments are made. Pressure shifts. Margins tighten. Tonight resets everything.

The Headline Matchup: Meldrum vs Martens

This series will run through the setters.

Libby Meldrum led the nation in assists per set at 9.80 this season. She has been the engine of TRU’s offence, controlling pace and keeping all attacking lanes involved. When she is in rhythm, the WolfPack are difficult to read and even harder to stop.

Across the net, Julia Martens finished third in the nation in assists per set. Manitoba’s offence flows through her hands in much the same way TRU’s runs through Meldrum. This is a battle between two of the top three setters in the country.

Whoever controls tempo and handles pressure best could dictate the series.

Who the WolfPack Will Rely On

On the outside, Rida Erlalelitepe and Keira Gent will shoulder much of the scoring load. Erlalelitepe has been a steady offensive presence throughout the season, capable of winning long rallies and taking over stretches when needed. Gent has delivered in key moments and gives TRU another reliable option on the pin.

Hail Ward adds depth and secondary scoring, forcing opposing blocks to stay honest.

In the middle, Faith Christensen and Maria Dancheva will be tasked with slowing Manitoba’s attack. Their ability to close blocks and generate touches will be crucial, especially against a team that likes to play fast.

Manitoba’s Weapons

The Bisons counter with offensive firepower of their own. Raya Surinx is one of the most dynamic attackers in the conference and can change a set quickly with her swing and serve.

Manitoba is strong defensively and comfortable in high pressure situations. They attack with pace and look to force opponents into predictable patterns.

The X Factor

The Tournament Capital Centre is expected to be packed for all three games.

That atmosphere matters. Energy builds, runs feel bigger and momentum swings louder. For a WolfPack program hosting its first ever Canada West playoff series, the home crowd could provide a real edge for the Pack.
