A new era of junior hockey begins in Kamloops this fall. The Kamloops Storm are set to compete in the inaugural British Columbia Hockey Conference, a new Junior A Tier 1 league that brings together clubs from across the province including familiar Interior rivals alongside programs from the Lower Mainland and Okanagan.
The Storm enter the new chapter motivated after a second round exit in last year's KIJHL playoffs at the hands of the Williams Lake Mustangs, a team they will see plenty of in their new Interior Division. Kamloops will share the division with the Revelstoke Grizzlies, Merritt Centennials, Williams Lake Mustangs and Quesnel River Rush as the BCHC gets underway.
Before the regular season begins the Storm have four preseason games to get their feet under them, three of which come on the road. They open Friday September 4 in Merritt against the Centennials at 6:00 PM before returning home to McArthur Island the following night to host the Summerland Jets at 7:00 PM. The Storm then hit the road again the following weekend, travelling to Princeton to face the Posse on September 11 at 7:00 PM before closing out the preseason in Summerland against the Jets on September 12 at 7:00 PM. Their Home Opener is set for September 18 at 7:00 PM at McArthur Island.
It is a busy opening stretch that will give the Storm a good look at what they have heading into the season.
