Logan Stankoven's Day with the Stanley Cup is set

After weeks of planning behind the scenes, the finishing touches are being put in place for one of the biggest celebrations in Kamloops sports history as hometown hero Logan Stankoven prepares to bring the Stanley Cup home next Sunday.

The Carolina Hurricanes forward, fresh off helping his club capture the 2026 Stanley Cup, will spend his official Day with the Cup in Kamloops on August 16, giving local hockey fans their first chance to celebrate alongside one of the city's newest champions. The celebration was originally scheduled for August 13 before being moved to Sunday because of a scheduling change involving the Stanley Cup's summer tour.

City officials, Tourism Kamloops, the Kamloops Blazers and several community partners have spent the past month coordinating the celebration, with organizers working closely alongside the Stankoven family to ensure the day reflects both Logan's accomplishments and his connection to the community.

While organizers have kept some surprises under wraps, fans can expect an afternoon focused on celebrating one of Kamloops' greatest hockey success stories. The public celebration is slated to take place at Riverside Park, where fans are expected to gather for the opportunity to see hockey's most famous trophy up close and congratulate one of their own.

For Stankoven, the day represents far more than simply bringing hockey's most coveted trophy back to his hometown.

The former Kamloops Blazers captain grew into one of the WHL's brightest stars before making the jump to professional hockey. His journey culminated this spring with a remarkable Stanley Cup playoff performance, leading the Hurricanes with 11 goals while helping Carolina capture its first championship in nearly two decades.

Sunday's celebration will also mark a historic moment for Kamloops hockey, as Stankoven becomes the first local player to bring the Stanley Cup back to the city since Mark Recchi in 2011.
