More than 75 jiu jitsu athletes from Kamloops will make the trip to Kelowna this Saturday, January 31, to compete at the Okanagan Absolute.
Local clubs will be well represented at the event, including Valley Jiu Jitsu, which will have over 40 competitors attending. Owner of Valley Jiu Jitsu, Mike will also be competing, saying the jiu jitsu scene in Kamloops has seen steady growth over the past few years, with several new clubs opening and overall participation continuing to increase.
He added that many local gyms regularly work together and cross train, helping athletes prepare for competition.
The Okanagan Absolute will run throughout the day in Kelowna, with youth divisions competing in the morning and adult divisions taking place in the afternoon. The event will be hosted at Pacific Top Team Kelowna.
Another competition to keep an eye on is scheduled for February 21, when Westside Grappling will host an event expected to draw athletes from several Kamloops clubs.
