J.P. Hurlbert’s rookie season continues to draw recognition.
The Kamloops Blazers forward has been ranked 10th amongst North American skaters in the midterm rankings released by NHL Central Scouting, positioning him as a projected high selection ahead of the NHL Draft, scheduled for June 26 and 27 in Buffalo.
The Allen Texas native has backed up the recognition with elite production. Hurlbert currently sits second in Western Hockey League scoring with 63 points, an impressive mark for a rookie competing in one of the deepest draft years in recent memory.
This year’s class is considered one of the most competitive in recent years, and Hurlbert finds himself among elite company inside the top ten. The rankings include former WHL standouts Gavin McKenna at number one and Keaton Verhoeff at number two.
When Hurlbert is selected in Buffalo, the Blazers would extend their streak of having a player drafted to 15 consecutive years, continuing a long standing tradition of NHL development within the organization.
With months remaining before draft day, Hurlbert continues to build on a season that has already placed him firmly on the radar as one of North America’s top prospects.
